All applications for work permits and visas are handled by IAESTE. The trainee is asked to complete the application for a work permit (employment license) to be issued. On your approval of the trainee, you are asked to sign the document and return it to us for processing as soon as possible. The issue of a work permit costs €58 (EU/EEA/Swiss countries) or €230 (other countries) and we ask the employer to pay this amount on approval of the trainee. The foreign trainee in Malta is paid an amount almost equivalent to the cost of living, and we would be grateful if the cost of issuing a work permit is borne by the employer. However, at the employer's discretion, this may be deducted from the trainee's income. More information on the ETC website. Students on
IAESTE traineeships in Malta for a period of less than 6 months are
exempt from Income Tax. If the Income Tax Dept. enquires about this you
may print the certification document to prove this, attached hereunder. You are required to register the trainee as a regular employee with ETC and in doing so it is important to register him as a student and not as a regular employee. The work permit is issued after the student's arrival because some of them require a medical check-up as a procedural formality. We will eventually pass you a copy of the permit upon issue. |
